The Northern Counties Brass Band Association held its annual Open Entertainment Contest on Saturday 24th May at Loch Leven Community Campus in Kinross, Perthshire.

Highland Brass played a varied programme including Cortege from Mlada (Rimsky-Korsakov arr. Langford), the cornet solo Georgia on my Mind (Hoagy Carmichael arr. Morrison) and Bohemian Rhapsody (Mercury arr. Catherall). Due to a few gaps in the band, the performance wasn't to our preferred standard, and although we did not place, we still did ourselves proud and had an enjoyable and educational day.

The overall prize went to Bon Accord Silver, with the prize for the best fourth section band going to Buckhaven and Methil.

Next year's contest will be held on Saturday 23rd May 2015, again in Kinross.
